Cardiff Life Model Collective are a group of life models who have been getting naked for artists and photographers for various lengths of time. Some are relatively new to life modeling and others have been working with classes for over fifteen years.
We are all about promoting a healthy acceptance of the naked human form in all of its diversity and to ensure the safety of each other when working on new contracts.
We are mostly based in Cardiff but will work throughout South Wales and the South West. We have varied backgrounds and lifestyles and it is this individuality that provides the group with excellent dynamics and energy.
Some of us have worked behind the camera and alongside production companies for some prestigious BBC TV and Channel Four pieces and we have been approached by various media to work for magazines and TV. We have also been featured on Radio 4.
We have two events for International Womens Day 2012 – one on the 6th March and the other on the 8th March.
GLAMOURMAN! – TUESDAY 6TH MARCH 1900 – 2030 – 10 FEET TALL 11a-12 CHURCH STREET CF10 1BG
You know, page three glamour… Ever thought what a man might look like in the same pose? Well, in true ‘Guerrilla Girls’ style we have a man who is happy to pose – pout and all 🙂 This is a fun session but one that we would like you to think on – what is it about glamour that makes substituting a male for a female strangely hilarious and not at all sexy? This opens up a range of gender and sexualisation issues that we can have a chat about in the bar after the session.
FEMINISM AND THE LIFE MODEL – THURSDAY 8TH MARCH 1900 – 2030 – NOS DA BAR AND HOSTEL 53-59 DESPENSER STREET CF11 6AG
See our ‘wall of inspiration’! Filled with the art of famous women and transgendered artists through time…
DRAWING THE FIGURE
An evening of feminist theory as you draw. Be inspired by an evening of informal discussion on feminist theory in relation to life drawing and modelling. The topics covered will include:
Gender in the life room; the split of male/female body in artworks – The gaze and power of the viewer in life drawing – Depiction of the model – eroticism, objectification, passive nude – Undermining of traditional suppressive depiction of the body
Come, enjoy, create, respond!
Anybody and everybody is welcome, the more varied viewpoints and differences in understanding the more interesting the evening will be!
