Andy is delivering a mixed activity weekend the Forest of Dean in early March. Think of walking and exploring and swimming and saunaing and photography and some life drawing… Artists and walkers and explorers all welcome…
It’s a guided walking and exploration weekend, not so much about the distance covered but more about the views and attractions and the food and the friends, both old and new.
We’ll be staying in shared lodge accommodation on the Whitemead Forest Park site. This is a fine location with a bar, pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, field spaces, restaurant and all situated in the centre of the marvellous Forest of Dean.
Forest of Dean Gallery
Meet in the evening at Whitemead and perhaps go for a swim and a sauna before retiring to the bar for a few drinks and a get to know who is there session.
Walk to two of the main attractions in the area, newly opened following their winter closures. Andy will guide us through the RSPB bird sanctuary on our way to CLEARWELL CAVES. Here is a really lovely cave complex with a good deal of history and some fine interpretations and stories told on the self guided underground tour. Then it’s off to PUZZLEWOOD, a mossy woodland used for recent filming such as Star Wars and said to be inspiration for J R R Tolkien when writing the Lord of the Rings. The route back to the accommodation from this point is delightful. More sauna-ing anyone?
A day exploring the other local attractions of Speech House, New Fancy View, Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail and Cannop Ponds. This is a fine, day long walk, with no ‘attractions’, just interesting stuff to see along the way 🙂 You are then free to stay another night if you wish or wave goodbye and head off – the accommodation has to be booked for three nights you see.
If you stayed an extra night feel free to continue to enjoy the property until 11am but then you have to be out but you still have use of the pool and sauna which by now is empty of the weekend traffic 🙂
Book by going here…
