It was January 12th and a chilly Sunday in Cardiff but Little Man Coffee Companies doors were open and the on the premises baked and cooked cakes and snacks as well as a range of coffees, teas and somethings stronger were on offer… So, why bumble about at home when a brisk stroll would have you in this modern cafe waiting to be ushered downstairs into The Vault!
And that is where, after a bit of table reconfiguration, the artists for this afternoons session of drop in, turn up and sketch Life Drawing was taking place.
Andy had issues with parking but was on time and after a brief introduction to the session stripped off and adopted his first pose. In general sessions tend to be shorter to longer poses and today was no exception with the first four poses being five minutes, followed by two tens then a twenty and when the alarm went at the end of that a short break was announced.
Cardiff Life Model Collective have been delivering life drawing in Cardiff for ten years now and their success is wholly due to consistency, so open every week apart from Christmas, but all due to the friendly, fun and informal but informative nature of the sessions.
Chatting is actively encouraged and topics can range from politics through music, through architecture, through conspiracies and of course through the arts. The group also attempts to create networks and communities and often sticks around for coffee and chat after the drawing is done and dusted for the day.
After the break there was enough time for another twenty minute pose and then a thirty minute or so pose and that was is, drawing over until either Tuesday evening 6pm and same place or the following Sunday same place and 12.30pm.

Do come along sometime in 2020 – you’ll have fun and likely will end up coming back for more!
